These lovely earrings have been upcycled from vintage Napier earrings. They are made with a layer of beautifully coloured Paua or Abalone shell covered with a clear facetted cabochon.
The Maori believe the Paua will bring connectivity and harmony to relationships. The way the colours of the shell shift in the light is also a symbol of change and transition in Maori culture.
These earrings are:
- ethically and sustainably made
- one of a kind
- made from upcycled earrings from the late 20th Century
- 3 cm from the top of the hook to the base of the drop
- Finished with sterling silver hooks
Sustainably made in my Melbourne workshop, these earrings contain vintage materials which show signs of their age in a deepened patina and minor wear. I think that is what gives them so much charm.
