I created this distinguished looking necklace from an unfinished vintage brass and copper locket (unfinished in the sense that it was once intended for gold-plating), and embellished it with a wee armorial style vintage brooch made circa 1960s.
I connected the locket to a woven ribbon of new Czech made bronze hematite beads using recycled sterling silver wire which I have oxidised to give it an aged look. I think this gives the necklace the look of a distinguished order or medal, and I'm sure it will give its new owner that same feel when worn.
The locket measures 3 cm in diameter and is fully functional, perfect for holding a special keepsake or two.
It measures 46.5 cm along the neck edge with a further 7 cm in the handmade extender chain.
This necklace has been sustainably made with vintage and repurposed materials. These hold some evidence of their former life in a deepened patina and minor wear; I think that is what gives them so much charm.
Handmade in Australia.
