I made these earrings by upcycling a pair of vintage clip-back-back earrings set with turquoise coloured cabochons formed in the shape of scarab beetles. Egyptian Revival styled jewellery was incredibly popular in the 1960s. I have added some matching beads repurposed from a vintage necklace and suspended them from handmade hooks of tarnish resistant brass.
These earrings measure about 3.5 cm from the top of the hook to the base of the drop.
Sustainably made in Australia, they contain vintage materials which hold evidence of their former life in a deepened patina and minor wear; I think that is what gives them so much charm.
