In this statement necklace I've combined links from a broken vintage choker necklace with Opalite beads. Each choker link features Moonglow Lucite cabochons and soft blue painted leaves. I've extended the section of chain that remained using small Opalite beads and sterling silver wire. It is finished with new cable chain and a vintage style hook which means the chain length is adjustable.
Opalite is a man-made stone which has an opalescent blue hue with hints of fiery orange depending on the way light strikes it. It is said to have a soft soothing effect when held or viewed.
This necklace is:
- ethically and sustainably made
- one of a kind
- made with a 1950s-60s choker fragment, nickel-free cable chain and semi-precious Opalite
- 47.5 cm along the neck edge (refer to my necklace guide for more information)
- Finished with a hook clasp
Sustainably made in my Melbourne workshop, this necklace contains vintage and repurposed materials which show signs of their age in a deepened patina and minor wear. I think that is what gives them so much charm.
