An orphaned 1930s pot metal shoe clip set with rhinestones is the focal point of this lovely necklace. I removed the clip back and sealed the reverse side before combining it with vintage jade green glass beads. The beads are 'Cherry Brand' which means that they were hand made in Occupied Japan between 1945 and 1952. I have connected them with sterling silver wire oxidised to match the aged patina of the clip.
The colour of green jade represents peace, wisdom and prosperity.
This necklace measures 47 cm around the neck edge and is finished with a hook clasp. The repurposed shoe clip is 5.8 cm in length and 2.7 cm at its widest.
Sustainably made in Australia, this necklace contains vintage and repurposed materials. These hold some evidence of their former life in a deepened patina and minor wear; I think that is what gives them so much charm.
